WHAT KIND OF FESTIVAL is Picture this…Film Festival?

Picture this... festival is a competitive festival. Entries will be judged and awards presentedat our 4th annual festival in February, 2005 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Winning entries will be screened on a large screen with theatre-style seating for our audience. Screenings will take place throughout our 4th festival February 14- 18, 2005.

Picture this... is also an exhibition festival. A rather unique element is that we will have a private viewing area. Attendees may request to view any of the entries. All entries will be listed in our program which will be distributed to all those who attend. Our website will have info on all the entries as well.

WHAT IS THE COST OF ENTERING?

There is NO entry fee to submit your work to Picture this... film festival.

WHAT IS THE ENTRY DEADLINE?

Postmark September 30, 2004.

DO PRODUCERS RECEIVE AN EXHIBITION FEE IF THEIR ENTRY IS SCREENED?

No, not in currency anyway. We promote your entry on our website by listing your entry, with a picture and the text description, along with your contact information. This is also printed in our program. That way, people who are interested in acquiring a copy of your production can contact you directly. So, in a sense we are doing some advertising for you. And if you win an award, you receive extra promotion. Our philosophy is that we want your good works on disability, and works by film makers with disabilities, to find a larger potential audience by attending our festival and visiting our website. Entry fees form only a small percentage of the costs of running our festival. We simply can't afford to pay you an exhibition fee, and keep the costs of admission affordable to all. If you don't agree with our philosophy, we understand. Production costs are not cheap. We produce videos as well, and know what it takes to produce a good work. Perhaps in the future we will be able to afford to pay you an exhibition fee. This will likely be in a situation where we have an abundance of sponsorship money to cover all our costs. We are not there yet.

WHAT ARE THE PRODUCTION AND/OR RELEASE DATE RULES?

Productions from any year are accepted.

WHAT ABOUT THE PICTURE THIS... LIBRARY?

This is a year-round addition to the activities of Picture this...film festival. Our library consists of works that have been submitted to Picture this over the years, and we have the film/video makers permission to loan the film/video to individuals and organizations for educational purposes who also do NOT charge an admission fee.

We ask that entrants consider donating their submission to our library. There is a place on our entry form to do this. From time to time we also have a bit of money to acquire some of the submissions to Picture this... Our library is just another way (along with our annual festival and our website) that we make submitted works available to be experienced by a wider audience.

WHO ORGANIZES PICTURE THIS…FILM FESTIVAL?

This is a non-profit event organized through Calgary SCOPE Society, a registered non-profit society (# 1182 4135 RR0001) in Canada. SCOPE works with persons with disabilities. (Their mission statement is on their website http://www.calgscope.org)

PLEASE HELP: We're now working on our fourth festival... we are very eager to reach as many potential entrants as possible. Please tell anyone you know who might have a film about our festival.
